School of Management and Marketing

The School of Management and Marketing (SoMM) in Curtin Business School develops globally minded, career‑capable graduates, advancing responsible, evidence‑based business through innovation in education, research, and engagement. Located in the Faculty of Business and Law, Bentley Perth campus of Curtin University, we have close collaborations with each of Curtin's global campuses in the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

With a clear focus on learner employability and research excellence, SoMM offers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in International Business, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Strategy, Tourism Hospitality and Events, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Human Resources Management and Business Information Systems. We are also home to leading research entities including the Future of Work Institute, the John Curtin Institute of Public Policy, the Tourism Research Cluster and the Consumer Research Lab.

SoMM is closely connected with other Schools at Curtin with extensive opportunities for research and teaching collaboration in fields such as sustainability, corporate social responsibility, energy, entrepreneurship, mining and engineering, and health service provision. In particular, the School has strong ties with Curtin's Director of Entrepreneurship, the Institute of Energy Transition and Innovation Central.


People, Culture and Organisations (PCO)

This early‑career position is located within SoMM's PCO discipline with a focus on human resource management, organisational behaviour, employment relations and public relations. Teaching areas and courses also offer double degrees with law and psychology. Research activities draw on quantitative and qualitative methodologies as well as broader disciplinary perspectives such as philosophy and sociology. Topics include human resource management; organisational behaviour, multiculturalism, employment relations and labour markets; teamwork; ethics and sustainability; leadership; career development; gender, diversity and inclusion; public interest communication, reputation management and transmedia storytelling.


The role

The successful candidate will be an early‑career academic (ECA) looking to advance their career in teaching, research and engagement. They will be responsible for teaching, research and engagement in human resource management, employment relations and related disciplines. They will be expected to undertake undergraduate teaching and, subject to experience and expertise, postgraduate teaching and engage in innovative curriculum and content development. As a passionate early‑career academic, they will also be provided with opportunities for Higher Degree by Research supervision, leadership and professional development, where appropriate. Mentoring will be provided to ensure HDR supervision where required (i.e. for applicants with limited HDR supervision). They will also be encouraged to work closely with industry partners in both teaching and research and will be provided with mentoring, as required.


Key Responsibilities

* Design and deliver high‑quality and innovative courses in human resource management, employment relations and related disciplines.
* Develop course materials and assessment tasks that align with trends in the contemporary and future labour market and with the learning objectives of the respective programs.
* Deliver high‑quality undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching.
* Provide academic guidance and support to students, such as postgraduate study options.
* Conduct high‑quality research, including publications in high‑quality outlets (e.g., A*/A‑ranked management journals).
* Identify sources of funding, develop and submit funding applications, and secure external research funding to support research activities.
* Identify opportunities for demand‑driven research and engage with industry partners, policymakers and other stakeholders to understand their research needs.
* Engage in professional development, and internal/external service and engagement.
* Contribute to a positive School/Faculty/University culture reflecting Curtin's Values of Respect, Integrity, Impact, Courage and Excellence.
* Other duties as directed from time to time.


Role Requirements

* As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
* Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.


Selection Criteria

* A doctoral qualification in a relevant academic discipline (Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour, Psychology, Management).
* Demonstrated ability to teach at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, and to develop innovative and high‑quality course materials in accordance with their career stage.
* A track record of achievement in and commitment to excellence in delivering learning experiences across multiple teaching modes and platforms in accordance with their career stage.
* A record of high‑quality research commensurate with their career stage as evidenced by publications in relevant disciplines (Human Resource Management, Employment Relations), and a clear plan to build a high‑quality publications pipeline.
