**Your new role**:
The Kinship Care First Supports Program supports children in statutory kinship care placements where Child Protection are involved, and the placement is expected to last more than 3 months. The program aims to identify kinship networks early, strengthen family reunification where possible, promote placement stability and prevent children from being placed in residential care unnecessarily.
As a Kinship First Supports and Contracted Case Manager, you will undertake comprehensive assessments and provide recommendations to Child Protection about the suitability of kinship care placements. The First Supports Worker will consider risk factors, strengths and weaknesses of the placement and identify the child's individual needs. The role will support children to settle within the placement and support kinship carers to build their capacity to respond to the child's safety, stability and developmental needs.

**Your skills and experience**:
You will also have:
- Demonstrated experience working with children, young people and families with complex needs
- An understanding of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and Best Interests Framework
- An understanding of the out of home care and child protection systems and knowledge of the resources and services available in the Gippsland region
- Strong risk assessment skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
