About the Role:
Oversee site-based construction and commissioning activities for a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) utility project in Chinchilla Queensland. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, supervising, and ensuring all construction and commissioning works are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. The assignment would be for 6 months, based in Chinchilla. A vehicle and allowance for accommodation will be provided for applicants (within Australia only) who would temporarily relocate for the role.
Duties and responsibilities:
* Supervise daily site construction activities, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and safety requirements.
* Oversee civil, electrical, and mechanical works associated with BESS installation, including interface with substations and grid connection infrastructure.
* Manage subcontractors and site crews, ensuring quality workmanship and compliance with technical specifications.
* Support commissioning teams in execution of testing and commissioning activities for BESS units, auxiliary systems, and associated grid infrastructure.
* Monitor progress, prepare daily/weekly site reports, and provide input into project status updates.
* Ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance across all site operations.
* Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and quality teams to resolve technical or design issues.
* Conduct inspections, quality checks, and witness test procedures during construction and commissioning.
* Participate in handover documentation, punch list management, and final acceptance processes.
Experience
* Proven experience (5+ years) in construction supervision within utility-scale energy, renewable energy, or electrical infrastructure projects (BESS experience highly regarded).
* Strong background in commissioning and site execution activities, preferably in utility-scale projects.
* Hands-on experience with high-voltage electrical works, civil construction, and mechanical system installations on large infrastructure/energy projects.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documents, and schedules.
* Strong leadership and subcontractor management skills.
* Excellent knowledge of Australian construction standards, safety codes, and regulatory requirements.
* Proficient in reporting, documentation, and project tracking tools.
* Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Qualifications
* Trade or Degree qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
* Construction White Card
* Relevant licences / certifications for electrical works (desirable)
* Demonstrated knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
