About the role
We are seeking a motivated and detail oriented Project Accountant to join our Finance team and play an important role in supporting Council's financial sustainability.
In this role, you will provide high quality management accounting support, deliver detailed financial analysis, and contribute to accurate and timely financial reporting. You will assist in the development and review of Council's annual budget and budget revisions, monitor financial performance, and provide meaningful variance analysis to support informed decision-making.
Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, you will help ensure projects and programs are effectively monitored from a financial perspective while providing professional advice and support across the organisation. The role also contributes to continuous improvement within the finance function by identifying opportunities to enhance processes and efficiencies.
What We're Looking For
We need someone who shares our values of One, Respect, Accountability, Courage, and Resilience. The ideal candidate will have:
* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, with progress toward or completion of a professional qualification (e.g. CPA or CA) highly regarded.
* 2 years' experience in a similar role.
* Demonstrated experience in operating the Tech 1 accounting software, or the ability to rapidly acquire technical competency in this system.
* Demonstrated knowledge of excel.
* Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate and timely financial information.
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and explain financial information clearly to non-financial staff.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
* Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting Torres Strait Islander people together with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively.
Other Requirements
* The preferred candidate may be required to apply for a National Police Certificate before appointment.
