Hawthorne Civil is seeking a Site Engineer to join our delivery team on a major infrastructure project based in Ormeau. This is a hands on, site-based role for an engineer who thrives on coordination, quality, and teamwork and is driven by career progression.
About the role
As a Site Engineer, you'll work closely with the Project Manager, Supervisors, and our self-performing crews to plan and coordinate upcoming works, manage logistics and procurement, and ensure quality outcomes across our structural packages.
Key responsibilities
* Build strong working relationships with the site team and support day-to-day delivery activities.
* Coordinate 3-Week Look Ahead, deliveries, bookings, inspections, and procurement to keep crews productive.
* Understand the construction program, identifying upcoming milestones, constraints, and resourcing needs.
* Proactively identify variations and potential delays, escalating to the Project Manager with clear options/impacts.
* Drive quality control: attend pre-pours and pours, manage temporary works inspections, and ensure timely submission of QA documentation, close-outs, and defect rectification.
* Work collaboratively with the site team to improve methodologies and productivity.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with the client's engineering/quality team and support inspections/hold points as required.
* Develop an understanding of project budgets and forecasts, support cost control activities on site.
* Process invoices and verify against purchase orders (POs) and delivery dockets.
Skills & experience
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
* A Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent practical experience) with a strong civil/structures background.
* 2+ years' experience in a Site Engineer role on civil infrastructure or structural works.
* Solid understanding of concrete/FRP delivery, QA systems (ITPs, checklists, hold points), and working through close-outs and defects.
* Confidence coordinating site logistics and procurement (deliveries, bookings, inspections, purchase orders).
* Ability to interpret construction programs and convert them into practical short-term plans including look aheads .
* Strong communication skills and the confidence to liaise with client engineering/quality teams.
* Cost awareness—able to support budgets/forecasting and process invoices against POs and dockets.
* Proactive, team-first attitude with a genuine desire to develop into a Project Engineer.
* Australian work rights are required for this position.
