Local Laws Officer Job Description
The City of Melbourne is seeking dedicated professionals to join our team as Local Laws Officers. This role plays a vital part in maintaining community amenity and safety while upholding a customer-focused approach.
As a Local Laws Officer, you will actively engage with the community in a professional and approachable manner, addressing concerns, providing guidance, and ensuring compliance with various legislation through education, enforcement, and collaboration with Victoria Police.
Key responsibilities include engaging with members of the public, property owners, businesses, and tenants to achieve positive compliance outcomes using a combination of education, enforcement, and collaboration.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Ability and willingness to adapt to a dynamic work environment with a flexible and positive approach to change, and personal learning and development.
* Excellent customer service skills and an ability to deal with customers at all levels in a tactful and courteous manner.
* Proven skills in written communication including the ability to prepare status reports, statistical information, and recommendations for improvements to processes, procedures, and methods of work.
* Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and the ability to remain calm, objective, and in control when dealing with customer issues and concerns.
* Ability to make decisions under pressure, particularly when there are competing priorities and conflicting views in order to achieve quality outcomes.
* Sound computer skills including ability to use customer databases, Microsoft Office range, and other technologies used in compliance and enforcement activities.
* Ability to meet and maintain the physical requirements of the role (completion of a pre-employment assessment, including podiatry assessment, is mandatory).
