About the Opportunity:
An experienced Radio Frequency Engineer (Satellite Communications) is required to support a major satellite communications modernisation initiative within a federal government ICT environment. This role will contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of satellite communications systems, supporting both legacy Geostationary Orbit (GEO) infrastructure and emerging Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) technologies. Working within a multidisciplinary technical team, the successful candidate will support high-level system design activities, assist with technology investigations, and contribute to the deployment and maintenance of satellite terminals across geographically distributed operational locations. The role requires close collaboration with architecture, cyber assurance, and regional technical teams to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performance communications services.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain satellite communications systems supporting enterprise network environmentsSupport infrastructure spanning GEO and NGSO satellite technologiesContribute to technical investigations and system architecture activities related to satellite communicationsDeploy, configure, and maintain satellite terminals and RF communication infrastructureSupport delivery of high-availability WAN services using satellite connectivity solutionsProduce high-quality technical documentation, including system designs and maintenance proceduresCollaborate with cross-functional teams including architecture, cyber security, and operational technical teamsParticipate in deployment, maintenance, and operational support activities, including travel to geographically dispersed locations where required
Required Skills & Experience:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in satellite communications engineeringExperience working with GEO and NGSO satellite systemsStrong knowledge of RF and microwave communication systems, including design, testing, and optimisationExperience implementing high-availability WAN connectivity using satellite technologiesAbility to develop technical documentation and high-level designsStrong communication and collaboration skills working within multidisciplinary technical teamsWillingness and ability to travel to remote or geographically dispersed operational locations when required
Highly Desirable:
Experience supporting government or defence satellite communications environmentsAbility to mentor or provide technical guidance to engineers or field techniciansQualifications such as Bachelor or Diploma of Engineering (Electronics or Communications).
