Job Summary
The senior animal technician will oversee the Melbourne Bioresources Platform, requiring expertise in breeding strategies, experimental techniques, and complex animal research regulations. This role demands a deep understanding of diverse animal species, a passion for learning, and strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with researchers and staff.
Your Key Responsibilities
* Technical Support: Provide expert technical support for diverse experimental procedures, including the production of standard and genetically modified mouse lines and the care of non-standard rodent species.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to NHMRC, State Government, OGTR, and DAWR regulations, and contribute to the training and development of staff and students.
* Operational Management: Prioritise resource allocation, promote the AMS database, and work collaboratively with facility managers to optimise operations.

Requirements
* A degree in a relevant discipline or diploma in Applied Science (Animal Technology).
* Significant experience in operating at a senior level in a complex Biomedical Research Facility.
* Extensive practical experience with the care and use of animals in a research setting, with an excellent understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the various breeding techniques used.
This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Current valid work rights for Australia are required.
