About the Role
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) – Infection Prevention & Surveillance is an advanced practice Registered Nurse who provides specialist leadership in preventing and controlling healthcare‐associated infections across Northern Health. The role supports the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of IPC systems aligned with NSQHS Standard 3, using a risk‐informed, system‐based approach to reduce HAIs, antimicrobial resistance, occupational exposures and communicable disease transmission. The CNC promotes a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
* Delivers expert clinical leadership in IPC
* Oversees surveillance of HAIs and MDROs
* Drives patient safety through daily IPC rounds and evidence‐based practice
* Manages infection alerts
* Supports outbreak response
* Ensures statutory reporting
* Maintains IPC data systems to strengthen organisational governance
Qualifications
* Experience and good working knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control, including surveillance, outbreak management and application of NSQHS Standard 3.
* Proven ability to provide expert clinical leadership, influence practice change and support safe, evidence‐based decision‐making.
* Demonstrated skills in risk assessment, data interpretation and timely escalation of emerging IPC issues.
* Well‐developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and engage stakeholders at all levels.
