An exciting opportunity to join the team in the Emergency Department at the Northern Beaches Hospital.
The Advanced Trainee will assess and manage patients presenting to the Emergency Department. The Northern Beaches is a tier one training site allowing for 36 months of core training with possible rotations in Anaesthetics, Intensive Care, Acute Medicine, and Paediatrics. Approved for paediatric logbook.
Northern Beaches Hospital
Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients. The hospital features 486 beds, a 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs, extensive digital imaging/diagnostic facilities, a medical centre collocated with ED, a state-of-the-art education and interactive SIM centre, and a Helipad for Emergency Transport.
Emergency Trainees will have:
* Paid protected weekly education sessions
* Regular rostered non-clinical days to obtain experience in ED administration
* Resuscitation-focused training including advanced airway management, critical care interventions, surgical procedures, focused cardiac ultrasound, and paediatric resuscitation, with in situ multidisciplinary simulation and human factors training
* Access to a transparent and equitable roster ensuring fair shift distribution, including principles like quarantining leave around exams
* Access to free CCPU accredited POCUS courses run in-house annually
* Opportunity to work alongside highly experienced FACEMs in various specialties including toxicology, education, trauma, ultrasound, sports medicine, and prehospital and retrieval medicine
What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of an Advanced Trainee in Emergency Medicine is to provide high-quality medical care under supervision to undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Trainees should operate within their expertise and seek consultation when needed. Responsibilities include:
* Leading in patient admission, assessment, management, and discharge planning
* Communicating with staff, patients, and families about care decisions
* Coordinating diagnostics and specialist consultations
* Arranging discharge and liaising with community care
This position is based at the Northern Beaches Hospital, Frenchs Forest, NSW. The hospital is accredited for 18 months of Emergency Training, with rotations in Anaesthetics, Intensive Care, Acute Medicine, and Paediatrics, including paediatric logbook approval.
