About the Role
Based in the ABC's national headquarters, this role sits at the centre of Australia's most extensive and technically complex Radio broadcast operations.
Reporting to the MCR Operator (Radio) Lead for Sydney, you will join a high performing and collaborative team of 8 Radio Master Control Room (MCR) operators.
As a Senior MCR Operator, you will support both contribution and distribution operations, helping deliver live and pre‐recorded content across AM, FM, satellite, digital and streaming channels. You will work closely with producers, presenters and technical teams to maintain seamless program delivery and technical quality across the network.
The role involves operating and monitoring Master Control Systems, managing switching requirements and responding to technical issues in real time. You will also contribute to workflow improvements, technical projects and the ongoing support and development of team members.
Training and support will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced MCR Operator looking to step into a more senior national broadcast role.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Operating and monitoring Radio Master Control, contribution, transmission and associated broadcast systems
* Supporting the distribution of live and pre‐recorded radio content across AM, FM, satellite, digital and streaming platforms
* Managing complex switching requirements and resolving conflicting scheduling instructions in real time
* Compiling, editing and maintaining switching schedules and operational systems
* Providing first‐line maintenance, transmission restoration and fault diagnosis support
* Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and emerging broadcast technologies
About You
You are an experienced broadcast operator with strong technical knowledge of Radio transmission and Master Control operations. You are calm under pressure, solutions‐focused and capable of making sound decisions in fast‐moving live environments.
You communicate clearly and work effectively with technical teams, presenters, producers and operational stakeholders. You are hands‐on and a team player, take ownership of your work and are motivated by maintaining high broadcast standards.
This role operates on a two‐week rotating roster within a 24/7 broadcast environment, requiring availability across a mix of day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts as part of a collaborative national operations team.
You Will Bring
* Experience in Radio MCR and on‐air transmission operations
* Strong knowledge of broadcast transmission systems, scheduling systems and emerging technologies
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex operational requirements in live environments
* Strong troubleshooting and fault diagnosis capability
* Excellent planning, organisational and problem‐solving skills
* A proactive approach to continuous improvement and operational efficiency
* Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience
