The Role
Reporting to the Coordinator Asset Management and based in Windsor NSW. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute high‐level asset accounting expertise to Council. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting various departments in managing their assets effectively, ensuring optimal use of Council resources and informing strategic decision‐making.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining accounting systems and processes that facilitate the analysis and monitoring of asset performance and its impact across the organisation. The role also involves initiating financial planning models to support sound decision‐making and contributing to the continuous improvement of financial information in response to evolving internal and external requirements.
About You
You are a detail‐oriented and experienced accounting professional with a strong background in financial reporting and asset management. Your expertise spans a broad range of accounting procedures, and you're well‐versed in relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act and applicable accounting standards.
You bring advanced computer skills, particularly in spreadsheets, word processing, and Microsoft Office applications, and you're confident in maintaining asset systems and registers. Your understanding of asset accounting principles—such as capitalisation, depreciation, revaluation, impairment and disposals—is well established, and you are adept at preparing both routine and ad‐hoc financial reports.
With a strategic mindset, you're capable of undertaking financial modelling to assess full life‐cycle asset costs, supporting updates to Asset Management Plans and the Long‐Term Financial Plan. You're proactive in recommending and developing systems that align with asset accounting and financial management policies, and you consistently deliver high‐quality service to both internal and external stakeholders.
Proven experience preparing reconciliations for control systems and financial statements. Preparation of various schedules and statistical returns.
Proven experience on monitoring the integrity of the Financial Systems, including monitoring postings to budget and actual ledgers, processing journals and ensuring new accounts are coded correctly.
Experience on processing of general journals and asset adjustments.
* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Financial Management, Commerce, Business or relevant field, and/or relevant industry experience.
* Professional Certificate in Infrastructure Financial Management, or willingness to obtain.
* Professional verbal and written communication skills
* Membership of CPA Australia or ICAA (desirable)
* The right to live and work in Australia
* Class C Drivers Licence
* Safework WHS White Card
* Working with Children Check (WWCC)
