About the role
This full-time Finance and Payroll Officer position with Groote Archipelago Regional Council is based in Parap, NT and plays a key role in supporting the organisation’s financial operations. Reporting to the Management Accountant, you will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll, while also managing accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure efficient financial processes across Council.
What you'll be doing
* Processing end-to-end payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation, awards, and agreements
* Maintaining payroll records, including employee changes, leave balances, and entitlements
* Preparing payroll reports, including tax and superannuation obligations, and ensuring timely submissions
* Managing accounts payable, including invoice verification, processing, reconciliation, and supplier liaison
* Coordinating accounts receivable activities, including invoicing, debtor management, and revenue collection
* Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting monthly and annual financial reporting processes
* Acting as a key contact for payroll-related enquiries from employees and internal stakeholders
* Supporting continuous improvement of payroll and finance processes, including internal controls and procedures
What we're looking for
* Certificate IV or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or 3 years demonstrated experience in a similar role
* Demonstrated experience in payroll processing and accounts payable/receivable functions
* Strong understanding of payroll legislation, accounting principles, and financial reporting requirements
* Experience using payroll and accounting systems (e.g. Xero, Employment Hero, Approval Max)
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
* Well-developed communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across a diverse organisation
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
