This is a permanent part-time ( FTE) position commencing as soon as possible

Menzies Community School is situated 130 km north of Kalgoorlie‐Boulder and is a highly supportive, welcoming and inclusive school. The current school population of 21 includes not only students from Menzies township but also students who travel by bus each day from Morapoi Station.

Menzies is a calm, friendly community with collegiate staff who regularly enjoy social badminton, city weekend shopping in Kalgoorlie and visiting local sights such as Lake Ballard, catching yabbies at local dams and historic gold mining towns along the Golden West Discovery Trail on the weekends. Strong collegiate networks between the northern schools offer opportunities for friendship and collegial experiences.

The school currently has two primary classes – one of which is a dedicated Early Childhood centre Kindergarten to Year 2, Years 3 to 6, as well as a high school room Year 7 to 12 in which supervision is provided for students who are enrolled in subjects through the School of Isolated and Distance Education. Our students learn Key Word Signs, Auslan and Wangkatja languages. The school amenities include a health fitness centre, breakfast room, playgroup, new sensory playground, sensory room, heritage buildings, vegetable and fruit gardens, multi‐purpose court and a new uncovered area due for completion in 2025.

The Role

The Gardener – Handyperson is responsible for maintaining the school grounds in a safe and tidy condition, ensuring a conducive external learning environment for students and staff. This includes overseeing the upkeep of turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees and various soft landscapes; maintaining hard landscaping features such as courts and paving; marking sports areas; and conducting minor repairs in alignment with departmental policies. The Gardener – Handyperson also keeps gardening facilities, equipment, tools and machinery clean and serviceable, reports faults promptly and adheres to safe work practices.

In collaboration with the Manager of Corporate Services, the role contributes to the development of safe work procedures, conducts risk assessments as needed and maintains compliance with Occupational Safety and Health legislation and hazardous substances management, including the maintenance of records in accordance with safety guidelines.

Eligibility

* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check.

* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
