The Role
The Sleep Scientist works under the general supervision of the Sleep Unit Manager to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in-lab and home polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. The sleep scientist assists with quality assurance, teaching and research activities and helps maintain high quality measurement within the sleep laboratory. The sleep technologist holds appropriate formal qualifications and is able to provide assistance to other lab staff.
Where you'll be working
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. POWH provides an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes as a result of the provision of person-centred care.

Selection criteria
- Bachelor degree in Science, Applied Science or Nursing, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer and the award.
- Demonstrated experience in the functions of sleep medicine
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of sleep disorder physiology
- Demonstrated effective experience in the use of polysomnography software for recording, staging, scoring, and the preparation of technical summaries.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to exercise independent professional judgement on routine matters, commensurate with years of experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Sleep Laboratory Accreditation.
- Available to work night shifts infrequently when requested; flexibility and willingness to cover other available shifts.
- Current First Aid Certificate or working towards obtaining
