Job Overview
This role is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Remote Pilots.
* Pre-flight planning includes risk assessments and safety protocols.
* Meteorological data is observed and interpreted to ensure safe operating conditions.
* Aeronautical charts are reviewed to identify relevant features, hazards, and risks.
* Pre-flight checks are completed and a risk assessment and flight plan are approved by the Chief Remote Pilot.
* Aviation radio equipment is operated and liaison with air traffic control and/or other manned aircraft is maintained.
* The RPA is controlled in airspace with other manned and unmanned aircraft.
* Aircraft and associated equipment inspection and maintenance are conducted as per documented procedures.
* Post-flights checks, records, and de-briefs are completed.
* Compliance Centres and other workgroups are assisted to identify opportunities to enhance compliance data capture.
* Rapid deployment capability is provided to support emergent issues.
Key Responsibilities
* CASA certification must be maintained to enable lawful flight operations.
* CASA and program reporting requirements must be completed and submitted as required.
* Additional support may be required by the Chief Remote Pilot.
* Ongoing effective communications with the Chief Remote Pilot and/or Deputy-Chief Remote Pilot must be ensured.
* Collaboration with other workgroups within DES must provide fit-for-purpose service delivery.
* Investigations of all incidents must be supported.
* A workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people must be fostered.
