Support & Recovery Principal - Injury & Compensation

The role focuses on leading strategic initiatives to optimise Telstra's Workers Compensation insurance portfolio and delivering high-quality claims, injury prevention, and recovery services. The role reports to the Safety, Security & Wellbeing Executive and requires building a high-performing team culture, aligning operational and strategic activities with employee value and financial objectives.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of specialists to provide expert advice to Telstra's business leaders on health management, rehabilitation, and compensation services.
- Empower the team to interpret and implement relevant regulatory and compliance standards, processes, and frameworks.
- Develop and execute strategic and innovative insurance, claims, and recovery solutions to minimise loss.
- Engage and influence a diverse group of stakeholders to promote accountability and action.
- Collaborate across Telstra to ensure consistent application of systems, policies, and procedures.
- Lead programs delivering best-practice health management, rehabilitation, and compensation services.
- Develop and deliver strategies with the business to address emerging health, rehabilitation, and claims risks.
- Ensure compliance with licence, regulatory, and legal obligations under the SRC Act.
- Optimise and manage Telstra's Workers Compensation insurance portfolio.
- Drive continuous improvement in health management, rehabilitation, and compensation performance.
- Contribute to health promotion campaigns to enhance wellbeing and safety for employees and delivery partners.
- Manage budget, operational resourcing, prioritisation, and execution of all programs within the Support & Recovery team.
- Contribute to Board and operational reporting with timely, accurate communications to stakeholders.
- As a key leader within the SSW leadership team, promote cross-functional collaboration and a culture of safety, care, and continuous improvement.
Location: Melbourne or Sydney (flexible).
About You
To be successful, you’ll need:
- Tertiary qualifications in health, safety, HR, or other relevant discipline.
- Strong experience managing a workers compensation team in a large, complex organisation.
- Expert knowledge of interpretation and application of workers' compensation legislation.
- Experience developing and executing annual plans.
- Proven ability to partner with and influence senior stakeholders.
- Broad knowledge of commercial, technical, and legal Workers' Comp issues.
- Experience dealing with complex Workers' Comp issues and proactive early response environments.
- Previous experience in self-insurance in Commonwealth preferred.
