Forensic Mental Health Community Health Peer Specialist
As a key member of our Forensic Mental Health in Community Health team, you will be working with individuals who are experiencing mental health challenges while involved in the criminal justice system. Your lived experience and expertise will enable you to provide support, guidance, and advocacy to help them navigate their journey towards recovery.
Your role will involve delivering services that cater to the unique needs of this population, utilizing your own history with the criminal justice system and mental health recovery to inform your practice. You will instil hope, empower individuals to engage in treatment and support services, and anticipate and address psychological, social, and financial challenges of re-entry into the community.
Job Description
* Provide peer support and guidance to individuals navigating the criminal justice system and mental health recovery
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
* Utilize your lived experience to inform your practice and provide relatable support to service users
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Lived experience with the criminal justice system (i.e. previously placed on a corrections order) and/or the forensic mental health system
* Qualification equivalent to (or above) Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work and/or similar
* Completion of or willingness to complete the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) training
* Well-developed communication and listening skills
