Role Description
The Deputy Secretary, Hospitals and Health Services is a critical role within the Victorian Department of Health. This position provides stewardship of the state's health, aged care, and ambulance services, ensuring Victorians can access high-quality hospital, ambulance, and public aged care.
Reporting to the Secretary, Department of Health, this role leads the commissioning of healthcare provided by hospitals and affiliated services. The Deputy Secretary also acts as the department's primary relationship holder for these services.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the planning, purchasing, monitoring, and managing of healthcare services to meet population need and improve outcomes.
* Drive healthcare service performance through collaboration with Hospitals Victoria.
* Engage with executive-level internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategic plans.
* Monitor emerging health and community care system trends to inform decision-making.
* Develop long-term and multi-phased plans that align with the Government's strategic goals.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Experience in a health context, particularly contemporary approaches to health system demand and capacity management.
* Expertise in leading and delivering change in complex environments.
* Deep understanding of the Victorian health and community care system.
* Able to originate and oversee highly complex and strategic priority projects.
* Ability to shape and implement multi-faceted policy and operational reform.
